“Hope Scholars, a program for minority students at HCC, provided the inspiration and guidance I needed to have a successful college career.”

— Kevin Thomas, 2015 HCC Hope Scholars Program Graduate,

I enrolled at HCC in 2009, but dropped out to work in housekeeping at a hospital. In 2013, I reenrolled at HCC with a goal of becoming a nurse. While at HCC I was introduced to the Hope Scholars program, which made a huge difference in my focus and my confidence by pairing me with a mentor, and helping monetarily with a stipend for taking 10 credit hours and maintaining a high GPA. I worked and paid for school myself, so the stipend was incredibly helpful. Hope Scholars also provided tours of state universities, including of Florida State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Today I’m a Registered Nurse in a Cardiac Intervention unit. Thank you HCC!
